The 2026 Seaworks Winter Solstice Festival transformed the historic Williamstown waterfront into a vibrant celebration of light, fire and community, marking the longest night of the year while commemorating the 50th anniversary of the destruction of the Point Gellibrand Pile Light. The free, family-friendly event invited visitors to embrace winter through a mix of live entertainment, art and maritime heritage.
The festival attracted around 6,000 visitors over four hours, making it one of Seaworks’ most successful community events to date. The reopening of the restored Workshops Pier provided a spectacular backdrop, while the evening featured circus performances by The Sway, roving entertainers, live music, DJs, market stalls, food vendors and interactive experiences for all ages.
A highlight of the evening was the tribute to the Point Gellibrand Pile Light, with dramatic flame projections, historical storytelling and a screening of vintage footage celebrating the iconic beacon’s place in Williamstown’s maritime history. The event also welcomed the return of the Tall Ship Enterprize, reconnecting visitors with Melbourne’s rich seafaring heritage.
More than just a festival, the Winter Solstice Festival reinforced Seaworks’ role as a cultural and community hub—bringing people together through creativity, history and shared experiences while showcasing the precinct as one of Melbourne’s most unique waterfront destinations.
