About Seaworks
Seaworks Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for the stewardship, activation and long-term development of the Seaworks Maritime Precinct in Williamstown. Seaworks operates both a museum and Melbourne’s leading maritime heritage precinct, spanning 2.74 hectares of significant waterfront in Williamstown. The organisation is evolving into one of Melbourne’s most distinctive events destinations, carefully balancing heritage preservation with community engagement, public access and commercial sustainability. Seaworks recently oversaw the completion of a multi-million- dollar restoration of the historic Workshops Jetty on the site.
About the Board
The Seaworks Foundation Board is an active, skills-based Board of Management, collectively responsible for governance, strategy, financial oversight and leadership of the organisation. Board Directors play a hands-on role in shaping the long-term vision for the precinct, overseeing capital development, supporting the Executive Officer, and acting as ambassadors for Seaworks within government, philanthropy, industry and the broader community.
Board Director Opportunities
Seaworks Foundation is seeking two new voluntary Board Directors to join the Board during a period of strategic growth and increasing public profile. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise and/or strong established networks in some of the following areas:
- Heritage, cultural institutions or place-based preservation
- Philanthropy, fundraising background
- Finance, accounting, investment or capital development
- Volunteer and membership engagement
- Business development and/ or experience in the event sector
- Governance experience within not-for-profit, cultural or community organisations
- Experience in maritime heritage is welcomed but not essential — a genuine interest in heritage, community impact and sustainable development is key.
Key Responsibilities
As a Board Director, you will:
- Contribute to the strategic direction and long-term sustainability of Seaworks
- Provide sound governance, financial oversight and risk management
- Support capital works planning, asset stewardship and funding strategies
- Participate in Board and committee discussions with preparation and insight
- Act as an advocate and ambassador for Seaworks
- Support fundraising, philanthropy and stakeholder engagement activities
- Uphold fiduciary, ethical and legal responsibilities as a Director
Time Commitment
- Approximately 11 Board meetings per year (2–3 hours each, usually monthly)
- Participation in at least one Board committee (1–3 hours per month)
- Attendance at key events, stakeholder engagements and occasional special meetings
- New Director induction and orientation (3–4 hours)

- Directors are expected to comply with conflict of interest and confidentiality obligations.
Remuneration
This is an honorary, unpaid role.
