$6 million investment announced for Workshops Pier at Seaworks

The Seaworks Foundation warmly applauds the announcement by Labor Member for Williamstown, the Hon. Melissa Horne, that a re-elected Labor Government will invest $6 million for critical infrastructure repairs to support the re-opening of Workshops Pier.

Seaworks are custodians for the 2.74 ha former Melbourne Harbour Trust site which they have leased from the State Government, through Parks Victoria, since 2006.

“We have long been campaigning for investment to restore our pier infrastructure, and we are grateful to our local MP the Hon. Melissa Horne for her tireless work on behalf of our community” said Seaworks’ chair, Patsy Toop. “We now can look forward to one day re-opening Workshops Pier to the public and once again providing berthing facilities to local maritime businesses.”

Workshops Pier was the latest and most significant of Seaworks’ three jetties to be closed.

Extensive works are required to restore the existing infrastructure so it can safely provide public access as well as berthing to commercial operators, private vessels, community organisations and some tourism-related vessels, including tall ships.
